Georgian Table Rushlight Nip and Candleholder
Retaining the Original "Conical" Wooden Base
Well Burnished Oak and Hand Wrought Iron
British, Possibly Welsh, c.1770

Dimensions

24.5cms high x 10.5cms diameter

Condition report

A noble primitive lighting device with a wonderfully burnished solid oak base and blacksmith fashioned metalwork. The rush nips retain the original pin hinge and the arms both bear writhen details, with the counterbalance arm terminating in an integral candle socket. The beautifully burnished base has a wide historic shrinkage and the metalwork has evidence of oxidisation and some pitting, but it remains in stable and fully functional condition and has a delightful sculptural presence.
