Georgian Plate Warmer.
A fine and rare Georgian revolving plate warmer, cast brass with protruding turnings down the length of the spokes allowing for the accommodation of plates of different diameters.
Reading from Fennimore’s Metalwork in Early America we learn that stands ‘with revolving tops are useful to place things on occasionally before the fire to keep hot; by the top being movable, the several sides of the dish maybe presented to the fire very conveniently’.
English, third quarter of the eighteenth century.
16.75 inches high.
