Georgian padouk pier table.
A small and elegant George II padouk pier table, the rectangular grey veined marble top with a cross-banded border to quadrant beading above a frieze of well figured veneers over crosscut quadrant moulding. Stands upon four tapered turned legs with carved lappets to the knee and terminating with pad feet.
English, circa 1740 - 1760.
Padouk is an exotic oriental hardwood, highly prized by British cabinet makers of fine quality furniture since first imported from the east in the early 18th century and is of the rosewood family.
