A very attractive and rarely found late 18th century, Hepplewhite period, Georgian mahogany patience table. Having well figured hinged folding top over one frieze drawer to end and various false drawers retaining original turned wooden knobs. Raised on elegant square, moulded, chamfered legs united by cross stretcher.

The card game of patience was hugely popular during the 18th century and seen as a little light entertainment which was a great way of passing the time. It was indeed so popular that these specific types of small, occasional, lamp type tables with folding tops were christened specifically as "patience tables" made with the intention of one being able to use them as an attractive, elegant little side type table for a large amount of the time, whilst also being able to sit down at them and play cards once the tops are folded over.

This particular example is very good quality, constructed from good mahogany timber which retains an excellent colour and is well figured. It is raised on elegant chamfered legs which boast attractive moulded decoration. It also retains its original turned wooden knobs to the single drawer and to the false drawers which allows the table to look the same from all viewing angles. Two of the false drawers are actually hinged supports for the foldover sections of the top to rest on.

As with all items which we offer for sale this elegant little georgian games table has been attended to in our workshops, by our highly trained, specialist antique furniture restorers to ensure it is in good working order. It has also received a natural wax polish to ensure it is ready for immediate placement within the home.
