Georgian Mahogany Longcase by Edward Arnold, St Neotts. 

Finely figured flame mahogany case with double stepped base, raised moulding to the plinth, long break arch top trunk door with brass escutcheon, canted corners inset with brass.  Break arch hood with reeded brass inset pillars supporting the dial.

Brass dial with a finely matted centre, raised silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals, calendar aperture, subsidiary dial for seconds and signed Edward Arnold, St Neotts with strike / silent to the arch.  Original finely pierced ‘blued’ steel hands.

Fine quality eight day movement with five ringed and knopped pillars striking the hours on a centrally mounted bell. Circa 1790.

Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes lists Edward Arnold as working in St Neotts circa 1790.
