Georgian Bracket Clock by Joseph Quartermaine, Aylesbury.

 

Mahogany brass bound case standing on a raised stepped plinth and resting on brass bracket feet with red silk lined fishscale sound frets to both sides surmounted by a break arch with single brass bound pad supporting a hinged carrying handle.

 

Silvered, finely engraved dial with Roman numerals, strike / silent feature to the arch and original ‘blued’ steel hands, signed ‘Quaetermaine, Aylesbury’.

 

Fine eight day double fusee movement striking the hours on a centrally mounted silvered bell, profusely engraved backplate with matching brackets and back cock for the original Verge escapement regulated with short bob pendulum.  C.1785

 

Joseph Quartermaine is listed in ‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes as working in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire from c.1780 to 1804
