A fine George III mahogany bowfront chest of drawers in well-figured Cuban mahogany. Of large scale, low 3 drawer proportions and swept feet, all in the French commode style, united by a frieze of serpentine form. The drawers all with cockbeading and with original brass oval plate handles. The central drawer opens to a writing slide, which is adjustable with a ratchet, a pen tray and pair of ink pots.
The low height by design so that the writing slide is an accessible height when seated, a variation on both the bachelor's chest and the secretaire. Of elegant bowfront form, the mahogany exhibiting a rich colour and patination.
