Georgian Hepplewhite Mahogany Desk Armchair.

A Fine Quality 18th Century, Hepplewhite Period, Georgian Mahogany Carver Desk Armchair, Having Attractive Carved Shaped Splat, To Camel Back And Elegant Scrolling Arms With Moulded Decoration, Over Upholstered Seat, Raised On Elegant Square Tapered Legs & Stretcher.

This superb quality mahogany chair dates to the Hepplewhite period of the 18th century. It can be narrowed down to this based on the camel type top rail of the back and the design of the pierced splat back. Also the elegant square tapered legs are very typically Hepplewhite in design. It should also be noted that the carved decoration to the back is of both an unusual, elegant design and also exceptionally well executed.

Unlike many chairs we find from this period the chair is of generous proportions, which in combination with the richness of the mahogany timber used and therefore the overall solidity of the chair, allows it to be used by just about anybody that so wishes. Certainly it is more than fit for original purpose.

It has been recently reupholstered, meaning that should the rather attractive current fabric covering not be to the purchasers taste, it would be a relatively inexpensive task to have the seat covered in a fabric of their own choosing. That said the current fabric is in excellent condition and works extremely well on the chair.

As with all items we offer for sale the chair has been inspected at our workshops by our highly skilled, traditionally trained, antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish, ensuring that it is ready to place immediately into the home or office, before being offered for sale.
