An attractive George III period satinwood oval Tea Caddy, having ebonised strung decoration and hinged lid enclosing two divisions with fully working lock and key.
Tea of course was a precious commodity in the 18th century and tea caddies were used to both preserve the tea leaves and also to lock it away, protecting it from wandering hands.
This is a lovely example, constructed from attractive satinwood with simple but elegant decoration.
The overall condition is good and it comes with a fully functional lock and key.
Circa 1790.
