Georgian 18th Century Mahogany Side Table.
A Charming And Very Good Quality 18th Century, George II Period, Mahogany Lowboy, Or Side Table. Having Well Figured Rectangular Top Over Two Frieze Drawers Retaining Original Brass Plate Handles, Raised On Elegant Cabriole Legs Headed By Lappet Carved Decoration And Terminating On Original Pad Feet.
Throughout the first half of the 18th century most side tables were generally referred to as lowboys and nearly always constructed from rich, attractive solid timbers and occasionally veneers due to the plentiful supply of it at the time.
This is an exceptionally nice example of its type, retaining a good colour and surface to the mahogany timbers throughout and the incredibly elegant legs are also a really lovely feature of this piece.
It has certainly aged well retaining its original brassware which is quite rare on an item of furniture of this age. There are of course plenty of historic lumps, bumps, scrapes, slightly off straight legs and general signs of age, but nothing which is out of keeping for an item this old. Indeed we would say the condition is actually very good and that clearly this piece has been well loved, but also well used throughout its life.
As with all items which we offer for sale this mahogany side table has been inspected in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained traditional antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure it is in its best possible condition and ready to be placed straight into the home before being offered for sale.
