Charming oval George III tole tobacco box with lift-off lid. Circa 1800. The lid has the following inscription:

'Seek not Revenge at hazard of your Fame,
The best of Treasures is a spotless Name,
Lost Wealth may be recover'd, health obtain'd,
But Reputation lost is neer regain'd'.


Much of the charm of this tobacco box is in its inscription and even someone who is not a box collector would be delighted to have this box displayed in their home.

Condition report

Good condition considering its age and use. Some wear on the inside of the box and some chipping on the sides but none of it is intrusive and the top of the lid and the inscription are well preserved.
