A very fine George III Silver Sugar Basket made in London in 1785 by William Plummer.

The Basket is modelled in the unusual inverted helmet form and stands on an oval pedestal foot decorated with beading and a band of wriggle work engraving.

The main body also has a beaded rim and is pierced with a wide band of vertical pails and roundels, in addition to panels of foliate scrolls, flower heads and Neo Classical urns.

The piercing is also surrounded by bright cut and prick dot designs. This example has a beaded arched handle and blue glass liner.

The basket is in excellent condition and is very well marked in the base.
