A very fine pair of George III silver based Wine Coasters made in London in 1776 by William Plummer.
The Wine Coasters are circular in form with a beaded base and rim. The sides are finely pierced with Neo Gothic pails, as well as Classical laurel leaf swags and raying flower heads in roundels.
The front displays a circular cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest. The Coasters have silver bases, a design which was made for, and popular with, the upper echelons of society. Both are in excellent condition and are very well marked.
William Plummer was a prolific pierced worker who made very fine baskets and wine coasters.
Diameter: 4.6 inches, 11.5 centimetres.
