George III Figured Walnut Chest.
Early George III period 18th century walnut chest of good scale.
The highly figured faded walnut top is crossbanded in walnut above two short and three long graduated drawers.
The bevelled edge to the top sits above straight grain walnut sides and canted three quarter sides with fluted capitals.
The highly figured walnut drawer fronts are fitted with the original gilt brass swan neck handles and escutcheons. The drawers with applied cockbeadings to the front and oak drawer linings are all in good working order.
The width and height add favour to the chest.
The reversed bevelled moulded edge to the bottom if supported on elegant ogee feet.
Although the chest has superb veneers often found in town pieces, this fine chest is probably provincial.
