A handsome George II mahogany armchair; the scrolling top rail above a shaped and pierced splat and outscrolling arms; the armchair has a drop-in seat upholstered in green striped horsehair fabric and raised on square taperiing legs which terminated in a block foot and are united by an H-stretcher.

The unusual design of the Georgian armchair is fairly transitional and the shaping to the arms suggests that it was made in North West England. The armchair retains an excellent colour and patination and I love the architectural detailing-the scrolling brackets and the collar and block feet of the armchair's legs.

Circa 1750
