A good early 18th century bracket clock with quarter-repeat by this well-known London clockmaker. The well proportioned, compact ebonised inverted bell-top case has a brass carrying handle with pierced wood frets to the front and rear doors.
The attractive brass dial has date and mock pendulum apertures with signed shallow arch. The movement with verge escapement and pull quarter repeat on two bells, has a wonderfully engraved backplate bearing the maker’s signature with a cartouche.
William Kipling, London, is recorded working between 1705-1737. A fine London clockmaker.
