This French verdure tapestry panel dates to the 18th century.
The subject matter is classic verdure, with its idyllic rural scene of trees and rich foliage, a rocky water feature and a view into the distance woven in very light colours with silk highlights. These underline the lightness of the trees in the background.
The tapestry is worked in wool and silk. It is reduced in size to form this very decorative and easy to accommodate wall hanging of under two metres in height.
It has some repairs in keeping with age but is overall in very good, solid condition. It has been attached to a calico backing with good weight.
