French Porcelain Mantel Clock by Aubert & Klaftenberger.

A French porcelain clock, beautiful gilded decoration with inset hand painted panels on a light blue background. Enamel dial with finely cut original steel hands signed ‘Aubert Klaftenberger a Paris’.  Eight day movement with outside countwheel striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell and also signed ‘Aubert & Klaftenberger’.  Circa 1840.

Aubert & Klaftenberger are listed in Brian Loomes’s book ‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ as working in both Paris and Henna c.1830-1840. The partnership also kept a retail premises in Regent Street, London from 1839-1885 and were known for the quality of their clocks listing many of the nineteenth century ‘High Society’ among their clients. This example would have been sold from their Paris outlet, they also had premises in Geneva.
