French Automation Water Clock.
Patinated bronze and gilded ormolu mantel clock with water automation. The water ‘flows’ from an inset Lions head from a rotating spiral glass column into a circular bowl amongst the gilded reeds.
The arch top case stands on outswept gilded feet with gilded floral bezel, gilded dial with Roman numerals signed ‘Leroy, Paris’ and original ‘blued’ steel hands.
Eight day movement with silk suspension striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell. Circa 1820.
Paris from c.1800 – 1830 Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes lists Leroy was working in Paris from circa 1800-1830.
