A charming mid 19th century French Provincial cherry wood dresser base, or server, retaining exceptional untouched colour and patina throughout.

With well figured framed plank top over two frieze drawers with replacement brass handles and pull out slide to one end, raised on elegant cabriole legs to front and back.

This is definitely one of the most charming, but at the same time functional pieces of furniture which we have owned for quite some time. It retains a quite superb colour and surface which have clearly built up over many, many years of use and love.

It is also a particularly nice useful size. The relative narrow proportions make it perfect for use in many different places, including a hallway, a landing, a kitchen, a living room on the back of a settee, a dining room and of course in a kitchen which is where it would probably have been made for originally to stand on the wall close to a typical French farmhouse table and be used for serving the food from.

In terms of condition it is excellent in relative terms. The framed top has resulted in minimal shrinkage and movement when compared to many other items of fruitwood furniture which we have handled from this period. There are of course various old marks, scuffs, scratches and general usage blemishes which you would expect to find on something which has been heavily used for many years and the handles have been replaced, which again is to be expected. However the handles are very much in the style of what the original would have been.

Circa 1860.
