Frederick William Jackson (1859-1918) was born at Oldham in 1859. He was the son of an art dealer and photographer and was a member of the Arts Club in 1879, the Limners Club in 1880 and the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts in 1881. He was a founder member of the Staithes group and Art Club and exhibited widely throughout the country. His work is now in important private and public collections and is much sought after.

"The Farmyard" is a fine large example of Jackson's watercolour paintings. It measures 14" x 19" and is signed lower right. It is framed giving an overall size of 24"x 30" and has remains of an old label for the Fine Art Society on the back.
