Frederick Goodall RA (1822-1904).

European Lady in Oriental Costume.

Watercolour over pencil.

Canvas: 15 x 10 inches.

Framed: 23 x 18 inches.

Circa 1858.

Goodall travelled to Egypt in 1858-59 staying for 8 months in Cairo. He returned in 1870 with his brother Edward Angelo, also a painter. He sketched the country side and its people from which the finished oils proved very successful sellers back in the UK.

He also painted full length portraits of sitters in oriental dress, gentlemen and ladies. This watercolour would have been a study for a full length portrait in oils.
