Folk Art.
Massive American Antique Plaster Demilune Bas-relief Wall Plaque with American Eagle & Shield and Bellflower design.
1920s-30s.
Plaster.
The gray plaster bas-relief wall plaque depicts a large American eagle and shield. It was originally made for a Pennsylvania bank building.
One can see an Art Deco influence in the design of the plaque. The plaque is made with plaster and horse hair - the latter can be seen on the reverse.
Reference: See "The American Eagle in Art and Design", 321 Examples Selected & Edited by Clarence P. Hornung #189, an eagle and shield of very similar design from a Post Office and courthouse in Savannah, Georgia, designed by Lombard & Ludwig, 1931.
