William & Alfred Poulton Watchmakers to the King of Spain, London.

A fine and small George III silent pull quarter table timepiece in untouched condition. The 4 1/2 inch brass dial with finely matted centre, silvered chapter ring, subsidiary dial to the arch for regulation adjustment and finely cast gilt spandrels. The dial signed William & Alfred Poulton Watchmakers to the King of Spain.

The superb eight day movement with original verge escapement and pull quarter repeat on two bells with rise and fall regulation. Finely engraved backplate signed William & Alfred Poulton Watchmakers to the King of Spain. The ebonised bell top case with pierced sound frets, canted corners and pad feet.

This clock could possibly be the same clock referred to in the book, Mary Thomas, Founding Mother , The Life and Times of a South Australian Pioneer. "Mary's treasured clock made by William Poulton and Son, Watchmakers to His Majesty the King of Spain'.
