Fine Khorassan Carpet.
3.02 x 2.06 m.
The city of Khorassan, in Northeast Persia, is home to an ancient and prestigious tradition of weaving, stretching back as far as the Sassanid Period (241-651 A.D.) – its pieces are best known today for the diversity of their designs, and the quality of their weaves.
This unusually understated example, dating to the early 20th Century, features a monochrome palette, with vegetable-dyed shades of muted brown over an ivory field, with a subtle duck-egg blue undertone, framed by a wide border. A restrained use of colour, well suited to this carpet's well-balanced, all-over composition.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with its borders maintained on all sides.
A sophisticated piece, to suit a wide variety of settings.
