Fine Kashan carpet, signed 'Isfahanian'.
Antique Kashan carpets rank as one of the finest of all Persian carpets. The city of Kashan was the centre of fine rug weaving during the 16th century Safavid period and some of the best classical pieces are attributed to it with high category superior quality pieces being woven at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries.
This elegant Kashan bears the signature of a well-known Masterweaver's workshop, Isfahanian, which created top-end Kashan rugs of its era. It has creative design characteristics of earlier weavings of the 17th century and its vegetable dyed colours have aged nicely. The clarity of the drawing is attributed to its remarkable quality.
