A Fine Japanese Imari Ewer, 18th Century.
Of double gourd form with "C" shaped handle and slender "S" shaped spout, boldly painted round the body with chrysanthemum and peony sprays in underglaze blue and enamels in the classic Imari palette of iron-red, gold, blue and iridescent green and yellow enamelled leaves, a band at the waist in gold outlined in iron-red, the handle decorated with a curling design in iron-red and gold, the spout with flower heads in gold and iron-red, the footrim unglazed, the base glazed.
