The Wine Coaster has deep sides which are pierced with attractive Neo-Gothic designs. Both the base and the rim are decorated with cording and the front displays an oval cartouche engraved with a Scottish Crest with the Motto " Dum Spiro Spero - While I breath I hope" above.

The Coaster is very well marked in the piercing and has a turned fruitwood base. Thomas Nash was a quality pierced worker who specialised in the production of wine coasters and serving slices. Wine Coasters first appeared in England in the 1760's, therefore this also represents an early example.
