Fine famille rose garden seat, Jiaqing (1796-1820),  the bulbous body decorated at the foot with moulded dragons painted in pink enamels with white eyes and teeth above a narrow bands of turquoise and pink enamels, the lower register with four fan-like pierced openings, interspersed with jardinieres of plants and flowers and maidens in various pursuits, some holding Daoist emblems; the upper register with four pierced gilt roundels with ladies playing go under trees and children, all below a band of interlocking flower heads, the top with a gilt pierced roundel with two elegant ladies either side of the central pierced roundel, and in the foreground a deer with a pair of peaches on his back and a phoenix, height: 47.5cm. (18 3/4in.), condition: some repaired damage to top.

Provenance: Captain Richard Alsager (1781-1841), East India Company, Acquired prior to 1830 and thence by descent; Captain Alsager returned from China to the UK in 1830; Famille rose garden seats of this date are rare especially with a provenance of this kind; included with this seat is a mother-or-pearl counter with the familly armorial of Captain Alsager
