Fine Early Senneh Rug.
1.93 x 1.40 m.
Antique Senneh rugs from Northwest Persia are prized for their exceptional quality, delicate designs and distinctive weaving technique. They represent an era unmatched quality and craftsmanship, much coveted in the market today.
This charming 19th Century example features a wide colour palette, with vegetable-dyed tones of sky-blue, indigo, aubergine, terracotta and sage green over an ivory ground. The composition employs a series of scrolling ‘botteh’, or paisley, patterns – originally an ancient Zoroastrian motif, representing the evergreen cypress tree, a symbol of everlasting life – across the central field.
In very good condition for everyday use, with its borders preserved on all sides – remarkable for a rug of this age – with a characterful, weathered patina.
A high-grade early tribal weaving, to add personality and warmth to any interior.
