Fine Early Karabagh Runner.
4.60 x 1.03 m.
Antique Karabagh rugs are much sought after by collectors and designers as they boast some of the oldest and most varied designs of all Caucasian weavings, and represent perhaps the finest in quality and artistry amongst pieces from this region.
This fine circa 1890s example employs an understated caramel colour ground, with a delicate diamond motif, creatively repeated across the central field a wide variety of forms and gracefully aged vegetable-dyed colours ranging from shades of denim blues to ochre and terracotta reds, framed by a decorative border – an unusually open, restrained composition, well suited to this piece’s muted, earthy colour palette.
A sophisticated tribal rug, retained in very good condition, to add personality and style to a variety of settings.
