Fine Antique Sarouk Rug.

Antique Sarouk carpets are amongst the most highly-prized of all Persian room size carpets. Their style, quality and quiet formality have made them extremely popular in the West, particularly during the 19th century. Sarouk carpets come from the same region of Western Persia as Ziegler Sultanabad and Mahal carpets, and are distinguished by their tight weaves and high-quality wool.
This piece, a Sarouk rug dating to circa 1890, is a prime example, with carefully drawn floral and vegetal motifs in shades of light blue, sage, and ivory, over a light terracotta ground, working to bring out the depth of the rich natural dyes. The rug is in very good condition, its tasteful borders, framing the central design, are well retained, as are the short fringes at either end.
Its composition, more restrained and spacious than the traditional central medallion design, lends the piece a sense of effortless elegance, and would compliment a wide range of interiors.
