Fine antique Kashan carpet, by Masterweaver, Mohtashem.
The Masterweaver, Mohtashem, is one of the most highly respected weavers from Kashan. His rugs are believed to be amongst the highest category classical Persian weavings and are often considered the creme de la creme of Kashan rugs.
Located in central Persia, the city of Kashan is known as one of the greatest classical weaving centres of Persia. Over a short period between the Late 18th to Early 19th century, Mohtashem created some of his finest, most elegnat pieces. His work is characterised by its remarkable quality and design, beautiful subtle colours and the use of imported fine merino wool.
This elegant rug has his trademark use of muted colours and fine weave, with a spacious drawing in relation to its size. It is in good usable condition with a thin pile and minor restorations.
