Fine antique Japanese Bronze vase depicting a flock of Cranes flying over a Winter landscape (Circa 1880).
From our collection of Oriental Art, this fine Japanese bronze vase with elegant subtle decoration of a flock of red crowned cranes flying over a woodland landscape.
This decoration is a fantastic example of classical Japanese restraint in art. Less is more.
The body of the vase is Bronze, with a clever variation in patination used to create the subtle image of a landscape reminiscent of a watercolour painting. The trees silhouetted against a dark sky, the trunks are simply but effectively depicted with another inlaid shade of bronze. The silver patinated cranes add movement and a focus for the image. A flash of brightness allowing the background to shine.
