Fine 19th Century Satinwood Kidney Shape Side Writing Table in the Manner of Gillows.

A very fine satinwood and ebony inlaid mid-19th Century kidney shaped writing table – side table in the manner of Gillows.

The kidney shaped top having an inset tooled leather writing surface bordered by a satinwood crossband with an ebony line inlaid edge being raised over very finely turned and fluted solid satinwood supports united by a shaped beaded stretcher having a central finial. Raised on turned tapering feet terminating on brass castor with beaded collars.

This is a very good quality piece of furniture constructed to the highest standard and bearing all the signs of the famous cabinet making firm Gillows of Lancaster.  The kidney shape has always been extremely rare and sought after design in antique furniture along with satinwood being one of the rarest woods for construction.

This fine table works on so many levels, very elegant and rare in design with the lovely coloured satinwood against the ebony stringing along with fine quality craftsmanship.

In excellent condition, the satinwood timber has beautiful original patina and colour with an old leather insert again of good contrasting colour and wear.
