Fine 19th Century French Neoclassical Style Amboyna And Gilt Bronze Mounted Writing Table.

An extremely fine and unusual French Amboyan and gilt bronze bureau plat - writing table inspired by the Neoclassical designs.

French circa 1880-1900.

A superb amboyna writing desk having distinctive ormolu mounts to the frieze shares some of the best characteristics seen in the French Empire and British Regency periods, including which is rarely seen in furniture of the period the tapering to the square legs being confined to only three sides.

With inlaid ebonised banding, the gilt tooled leather inset top with a conforming pair of inset lateral slides, enclosed by a gilt bronze moulded surround with a diaper-filled lozenge panel design. The frieze with three drawers together with urn and oil lamp shaped mounts, conforming to the rear, the short side friezes with swag mounted medallions having drapery and trophy motifs, raised on tapered square legs surmounted by anthemion inlay and ending in ormolu cappings.

This bureau plat - writing table is of exhibition quality with the finest cuts of amboyna used along with extremely delicate gilt bronze mounts, a very fine example.
