Figural Coquilla Nut snuff box.
A superb small figural snuff box carved from Coquilla Nut of an Officer with back pack. Holding an ‘ale’ jug. He wears a jacket and breeks with his feet tucked up under him, such is the case for this style of snuff box. His hair appears cleverly to be the coarse end of the nut. The back flap with perfect original hinge snaps shut nicely. The whole piece a fabulous colour and patina. It comes with a scratch built stand which displays it well. Circa 1840-60.
