A Fabergé two-colour gold and blue enamel vanity case by Workmaster August Holmström, the rectangular case of three sections, the main powder compartment comprising two decorative sections, the central of translucent blue enamel upon a guilloché ground within a chased gold laurel leaf border, to the centre a ring of rose-cut diamonds encircling a diamond decorative motif, between two sections of reeded rose and yellow gold, the left section a further compartment, three diamond encrusted thumbpieces, hinged lid with mirror, the case measuring 9.5 cm in width and 3.5 cm in length, stamped ’56’ and ’88’ zolotnik, the Russian standards for 14 carat gold and silver respectively, bearing the A.Holmstrom maker’s mark, St Petersburg, 1908-1917, gross weight 99.5 grams.
