An extremely rare standing George III Scottish Snuff Canister made in Edinburgh in 1789.

This very rare box has an oval cylindrical form, with a spreading reeded base. The main body is plain in design and the cover is beautifully engraved with a bright cut outer border and band to conceal the hinge.

The centre, of the cover, is engraved with a contemporary shield shaped Armorial, these being the Arms of the Kelly family of Ireland. The box is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the underside of the cover.

There is no maker's mark, however this is excusable from Scotland at this date. Standing Snuff Canisters were popular in Scotland during the 18th century, however examples are rare, specially in this condition.

Height: 3 inches, 7.5 cm.
Length: 2.15 inches, 5.38 cm.
Width: 1.4 inches, 3.5 cm.
