An Exquisite Feraghan carpet.
Early Feraghan carpets were popular during the 19th century as they were created in the same region as the equally popular and much sought-after Ziegler Mahal carpets. Both are often seen in grand houses in Europe and the UK because of their quiet formality, soft wool and harmonious colours. Feraghan carpets are interesting in that they balance both tribal and formal elements of rug design beautifully.
An elegant Feraghan carpet with a sky-blue field and a charming 'pomegranate' design, symbolising prosperity and fertility, derived from 18th century Azerbaijan rugs. The stylised pomegranate symbol is cleverly repeated in different shapes and colour combinations, framed by a wide ivory border.
This Feraghan carpet is a timeless example to blend in a wide variety of settings.
