An exceptionally fine George III Silver Gilt Vinaigrette made in Birmingham in 1816 by Matthew Linwood.
The Vinaigrette is broad rectangular in form, with incuse corners. The cover is most unusually decorated with an outer border of raised trailing vines and grapes, surrounding an engine turned panel.
The sides display a serpentine shaped thumb piece and linier bands. The base is engraved with the same engine turning, as shown on the cover.
The interior displays deep original gilding and a most unusual cast grille, displaying two oval frames containing trailing vines and grapes.
The Vinaigrette is in excellent condition, is of a very good weight and displays crisp marks.
This is the first time we have seen this specific design and the quality is outstanding, as would be expected from this maker.
