THIS EXTREMELY RARE ENGLISH CASKET WAS DESIGNED TO A HOLD A VALUABLE OBJECT OR OBJECTS THAT COULD BE REMOVED QUICKLY AND TRANSPORTED TO SAFETY. MADE FROM THICK ENGLISH OAK PLANKS IRON BOUND WITH A DOUBLE LOCK TO THE FRONT. IT HAS ALL ITS ORIGINAL IRON WORK, LOCKS ETC AND HAS A WONDERFUL UNTOUCHED SURFACE PATINA.
ACADEMICS HAVE SUGGESTED IT COULD HAVE BEEN TO HOLD A SACRED CHALICE BECAUSE OF ITS SMALL PROPORTIONS.
A TRULY UNIQUE ENGLISH CASKET FROM THE LATE 14TH CENTURY OF MUSEUM QUALITY AND POSSIBLY THE ONLY EXAMPLE OF ITS KIND IN EXSISTENCE.
