Winter, Swaledale
Born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1868, Rigg studied at Bradford College of Art then at Académie Julian in Paris. His attractive open air scenes were in the manner of French late-nineteenth century painting.
He exhibited at RA, RBA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and elsewhere, working in many parts of England. He was a member of the Staithes Group and later lived for a time in Letchworth, Hertfordshire.
"Winter, Swaledale", is a lovely example of his work. Measuring 10" x 14" it is signed lower right and is inscribed on the back with the title. It is framed in a hand made frame giving an overall size of 14"x 18".
