An extremely rare large antique Agra carpet in remarkable condition. Woven with a deep burgundy background and a rare green border. A truly magnificent carpet woven in Agra in India around 1870. The brown dye on this carpet has corroded showing an embossed effect with the wool pile around it. This adds great character to an antique piece, these elegant large floral carpets were made for dining rooms and large drawing rooms.

Over 140 years it is in remarkable condition with minimal old restoration.

The Indian city of Agra in the late 19th century was an area where carpet weaving began to excel, as carpets and rugs were comissioned for the western market. Persian designs were used, but like Ziegler carpets the designs were generally enlarged to show beautiful palmettes and vines with mainly reds, purples, greens and ivory as the predominant colours.

Request a home visit and we shall show you this amazing enormous antique Agra carpet in your own home.  We travel all over the UK and Europe showing our carpets and rugs in situ.
