A MAGNIFICENT AND IMPORTANT ENGLISH TUDOR OAK AUMBRY. ENGLISH. CIRCA 1525.

FROM THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE 16TH CENTURY THIS FINE EXAMPLE IS IN ALMOST ALL ORIGINAL CONDITION. THE TWO PLANKED TOP ABOVE A FRONT WITH TWO DOORS DEEPLY CARVED WITH ROUNDELS CENTRED BY TUDOR ROSES WITH IRON BUTTERFLY HINGES AND LOCKPLATE,TO THE CENTRE A DEEPLY CARVED PANEL WITH SCROLL DECORATION. THE LOWER DOOR AGAIN WITH DEEPLY CARVED ROUNDEL WITH TUDOR ROSE CENTRE AND FLANKED BY TWO IDENTICAL CARVED PANELS.

BELOW IS A CENTRAL DROP FINIAL FLANKED BY BEAUTIFULLY CARVED LEAF AND BUD SPANDRELS. THE PANELLED SIDES WITH PLAIN SPANDRELS BELOW, STANDING ON STILE FEET. PROVENANCE- THIS MAGNIFICENT CUPBOARD WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION ON THE CONTINENT AND BROUGHT BACK TO ITS NATIVE COUNTRY AND HAS BEEN IN THE SAME PRIVATE COLLECTION UNTIL I RECENTLY PURCHASED IT. IT HAS A WONDERFUL COLOUR AND PATINATION.
