English Pearlware Pair of Figures of "Scuffle" & "Contest",
Attributed to Ralph Wood Jr.,
Circa 1790-1800

The two figures depict similar subjects- one is titled Scuffle on the base and the other Contest.  The figures each stand on a rectangular hollow base with a reddy-brown thin line of paint around the top exterior edge.  Scuffle shows a well-dressed young boy holding apart two young girls who are attempting to fight each other while he holds his hat to one side filled with fruit.  The other is very similar with the young man also keeping the same two young girls apart with the hat at his feet. There is slight flaking to the green enamel on the green rockwork base the figures stand upon.

There is an old sales label on the interior of base of Scuffle with the attribution to Ralph Wood Jr.
