Bred in 1807 by the Rev. W Carr on the Duke of Devonshire's estate, this animal was so large that a special door, twice the width of its neighbours, had to be built to enable her to enter her loose box. She weighed 2496 pounds and measured 11 ft 4 inches from nose to tail. Like many of her contemporaries she was sent to London to be exhibited at the Smithfield Show; the journey from Wakefield to London lasted 73 days and she was exhibited at many of the towns and cities along the route. Several paintings of this beast are known, each varying slightly in background detail.
