English Creamware Sweetmeat Centerpiece Stand with Dolphin.
Attributed to Leeds, Yorkshire.
Circa 1775-90.
The plain creamware sweetmeat centerpiece stand has six conjoined moulded scallop shell shaped trays, each tray with two overlapping shells surmounted with a dolphin, its tail raised high, swallowing a fish, it's tail just visible in its mouth. Surrounding the head of the dolphin are moulded flowers and leaves. The whole is raised on a circular openwork foot, the openwork in the shape of stylized leaves with the lower section reeded. The cream is a a rich yellowy colour.
