A  rare and wonderful art nouveau designed silver claret jug by the leading  Edwardian silversmiths, Goldsmiths and Silversmiths. Marked for London 1901.

The jug mount with asymmetric art nouveau flower and leaf design in the round. The handle with engraved and chased flowers terminating in stylized nouveau leaves also.  The lid also with flower design.

The claret jug has close similarities to the work of Kate Harris, many of whose designs for William Hutton & Sons were hallmarked and retailed by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths.  It is possible this jug was designed by Harris.

This is the same jug as was previously in the Collection stock code A102.

Maker:  Goldsmiths and Silversmiths (possibly manufactured by William Hutton & Sons).

Date: 1901.

Marks: G&S Co Ltd, London, 1901.
