A very good quality, one piece, mid 19th century oak pedestal desk of eleven drawers. Having replacement gilt tooled leather top and original turned wooden knobs. With dummy cupboards to arched panels on reverse, raised on original plinth base.

Quite an unusual construction for the period this fabulous desk has some unusual features. One of which is that it is constructed in one piece, as opposed to the far more commonly found three piece construction, where the top detaches from the two pedestals.

The oak which has been used is of high quality and retains an exceptional warm, untouched colour and patina, whilst the elegant little turned wooden knobs are most definitely original. It also comes with working locks and keys and the leather is a relative recent replacement so remains in good, usable condition as can hopefully be seen from the images.

The desk is a great size in terms of functionality, big enough to be very useful in terms of the surface area and storage space available, however not so large that it requires a very specific space, which means it can be utilised in hole host of both obvious and not so obvious spots around the home. It is also worth noting that it is designed in such a way it can be pushed right up against a wall, but alternatively it can be used in the centre of a room if so desired.

As with all our items this desk has been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, traditional antique furniture restorers who have given everything the once over and then naturally wax polished it using traditional methods to ensure it is very much ready for immediate use.
